La Journée mondiale de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge a été célébrée ce vendredi 8 mai à Goma, dans la province du Nord-Kivu. L’édition 2026 marque le 163 ème anniversaire du Mouvement international de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge, placée sous le thème : « Unis dans l’humanité ».
Au cours d’une cérémonie commémorative organisée dans la ville de Goma, la Croix-Rouge de la RDC, branche provinciale du Nord-Kivu, a rendu hommage à l’engagement et au courage de ses volontaires qui interviennent auprès des populations vulnérables malgré le contexte sécuritaire difficile de la province.
«Pour les volontaires, c’est un message d’encouragement et de passion, parce qu’à la Croix-Rouge nous chantons nuit et jour : toujours servir », a déclaré Joseph Kasongo, secrétaire provincial de la Croix-Rouge au Nord-Kivu.
Selon lui, cette devise rappelle que les volontaires doivent rester disponibles pour porter assistance aux personnes dans le besoin, selon leurs moyens et les circonstances.
Cette célébration a également permis d’expliquer le thème choisi cette année ainsi que les différentes missions menées par le Mouvement international de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge.
D’après les organisateurs, le thème « Unis dans l’humanité » signifie qu’au-delà des frontières, des différences et des épreuves, la Croix-Rouge demeure unie pour soulager la souffrance, protéger la dignité humaine et sauver des vies.
À Goma, les volontaires ont participé cette année à plusieurs activités communautaires, notamment des travaux d’assainissement visant à prévenir les maladies hydriques. Des programmes de sécurité alimentaire et d’autres interventions ont également été mis en œuvre en faveur des populations retournées, avec l’appui du CICR (Comité international de la Croix-Rouge) et de la FICR (Fédération internationale des sociétés de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge).
En temps de guerre comme en période de paix, le Mouvement international de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge agit conformément à ses principes fondamentaux : humanité, impartialité, neutralité, indépendance, volontariat, unité et universalité.
Ces principes visent à placer l’être humain au centre des actions humanitaires, sans discrimination et sans prise de position dans les conflits politiques, religieux, raciaux ou idéologiques.
Joseph Kasongo a également insisté sur l’importance de protéger l’emblème de la Croix-Rouge.
« Nous devons être capables de protéger l’emblème de la Croix-Rouge afin qu’il soit respecté et utilisé uniquement pour sauver des vies. Cela permet au Mouvement d’être accepté par les communautés et de faire comprendre notre neutralité et notre impartialité dans les actions que nous menons », a-t-il souligné.
Chaque 8 mai, la Journée mondiale de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge rend également hommage à Henry Dunant, fondateur du Mouvement, dont la vision continue d’inspirer les actions humanitaires à travers le monde.
